About Us - The Basics
We are a free spiritual movement that embraces many other beliefs and traditions.
We are, quite simply, people who want to support all that is good, all that is right, and all that is just.
Unitarian Universalism had its origins in liberal Christianity and quickly grew to embrace all spiritual traditions that hold a deep regard for intellectual freedom and inclusive love. We seek and welcome inspiration from Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Islam, Humanism, Agnosticism, Atheism, Secular Humanism, and Native American beliefs — just to name a few!
Unitarian Universalists (or UUs for short) are not credal — meaning we don’t have a particular sacred text or have a lists of laws or commandments by which we expect UUs to live their lives. But we do claim with joy that LOVE is the power that holds us together and is at the center of our shared values. The values we share include all the following, which we hold as inseparable and deeply interconnected.
- Interdependence: We honor the interdependent web of all existence and acknowledge our place in it.
- Pluralism: We are all sacred beings, diverse in culture, experience, and theology.
- Justice: We work to be diverse multicultural Beloved Communities where all feel welcome and can thrive.
- Transformation: We adapt to the changing world.
- Generosity: We cultivate a spirit of gratitude and hope.
- Equity: We declare that every person is inherently worthy and has the right to flourish with dignity, love, and compassion.
Are these values you can get behind?
If so, you may have been UU all along!
Our hybrid services (that is, in person and on Zoom) begin at 10:30 am Eastern Time every Sunday. Nursery care is offered at all services for very young children, and we often have Spiritual Development classes for older children.
Our typical service includes:
Music: We sing together and we enjoy special musical performances by the choir, church members, or guest artists…
Meditation/Prayer/Guided Thought: We reflect together in prayer or meditation, or simply enjoy a time of silence…
Joys and Concerns: We strengthen our connections with one another through a ritual of sharing and caring about personal issues…
Message/Sermon: We hear thoughtful messages that inspire us to be more compassionate, more joyful, and active in creating a more beautiful and equitable world.
